Roy Kerridge

Can you read this?

Who was Roy Kerridge? I found this letter from 1985. I must have written to him at the Spectator. I must have sent him a cheque. But why? Who are these people he is writing about.

I did find an obituary of him which makes for interesting reading.

He never did write back to me. What was the situation with Louise and baby Chantelle?

Sorting through boxes of old letters is a fascinating task. But I have too many. Many too many.

But I may share some others soon.

  1. Interesting – perhaps the issue of Private Eye referred to has more information about this case, and perhaps too there is something relevant in the files of the magazine. The wording suggests to me something about.custody of children / children in care of the local council.

      • I didn’t Google my late brother Roy for some time. Now I am interested to find this. But I regret I know nothing about it.

The family has some of his papers, but I have no access to them just now. When I do, I will look out for this.

Best regards, and how nice that Roy is remembered. He tried to do many good things.

  2. Hello Basia,

I tried writing to you earlier but had problems with the website so I hope you don’t receive this twice.

Roy’s letter was about the tragic case of Jasmine Beckford, a little girl who was removed from foster care and returned to violent parents who killed her. Roy reported on the case for the Spectator Magazine.

Louise and Chantelle were Jasmine’s sisters.

The Rule of Gun refers to Gun Wahstrom the social worker who made the disastrous decisions.

You must have very kindly sent money to help.

Hope that’s cleared up the mystery.

    Best wishes from Roy’s sister
