Trains

I went to Amersham yesterday to go to the hairdresser. I last went to her about seven months ago and was going to go in October but she moved salons from Marlow to Amersham. Too far away I thought. How hard can it be to find a hairdresser near by? Turns out it’s very hard.

I hate having my hair cut so I avoid it as much as possible, trying to convince myself that my hair is ok when obviously it isn’t. So one day a few weeks ago I happened to be in Marlow, caught a glimpse of myself in a shop window and decided there and then to have my hair cut.

Oh, what a mistake to make. I approached several establishments, the operative word on my lips was now, theirs was appointment. I couldn’t be doing with that so I persevered until some cheap barbers shop agreed to cut my hair. Oh dear. I came out and wept. And immediately made an appointment in Amersham.

Hence my trip yesterday. Charlotte was lovely, bit her lip about the state of my hair and proceeded to cut out all the previous mistakes. So now my hair is very short, but at least it will grow out shapelily ( is there such a word? There is now)

Amersham is about ten miles from where I live. I could probably walk it in a day. Uber costs £40. My husband drove me there but I decided to go back by bus. It was a beautiful day. A slow and sunny day. I walked to the bus stop and on the way I came across this model railway in the photo above. It fascinated me.

A little known fact about me is that I actually find trains fascinating. I love travelling by train and especially the tube. I love all the maps associated with train journeys but am not quite nerd enough to say I know anything about engines, but I do like looking at steam engines and especially seeing them in action.

Yet yesterday I came home on two buses. It took two and a half hours with 40 minutes waiting time in High Wycombe bus station. It could have been shorter but I think I may have missed a bus by being distracted in Marks and Spencer’s. The journey was lovely with spring flowers everywhere and blossoming trees. Altogether a successful day. And I saved £40.!!
