St Augustine’s Priory 1969/70

The front cover a little the worse for wear. My daughter found this on Wednesday and was a bit bemused why I was so thrilled to see it again. I had been looking for it for some time – after all I did contribute as you will see in a moment. It’s on foolscap paper – does anyone use this size any more? The whole thing was designed and hand roneoed or gestettnered by our teacher, Miss Royle. The poetry was also heavily edited by her, as I remember working very hard on rhythm and rhyme in my piece of verse – she very kindly pulled it apart and made it more meaningful. I’m not sure I would take so kindly to that helpfulness now – but she did inspire in me a love of poetry and creativity – so here is the result. I must have been about 15 or 16 at the time – she was maybe 21, full of energy and enthusiasm and passion. It didn’t go down too well with the nuns – but we all survived!

I wonder what has happened to Adrienne Harris now. or Frances Lowndes, Liliana Dario,Marisa Severi, Marigold I saw recently, Linda Kamlet?

Almost 50 years have gone by since these poems saw the light of day!
